My Dear Brethren,
I do not know if summer has arrived for you, but it has arrived for us. We are seeing the start of the heat and humidity here in central Pennsylvania, much like tropical Africa where I (Bruce) had the privilege of serving for many years. There is much that I miss of Africa, but not the heat and humidity!
We often heard that the weather was the reason for the slower pace of life in Africa. I do not know, but I do know that this last month has not been 'slow' here. I have been out preaching, visiting prospective missionaries, and seeing missionaries (and others) at the Office. April was even busier, but we thank the Lord not only for work, but also for growth. GFF has grown, and we thank the Lord for it. More will be said next month.
Recruiting missionaries is very much a 'people' business. As I consider the newer missionaries that have come into the Fellowship, most came through more indirect means. Some came through personal recommendations; others came from the website. Some came as a result of ministry in past years. We are also trusting the Lord for second and third generation missionaries, children (or grandchildren) of present missionaries. However, ALL come as the result of prayer. Prayer is the most important thing that you are able to do for us; please keep praying!
As I have continued to mention, we have missionaries serving alone. Some I cannot mention due to the sensitivity of the places where they serve. Others, as Rodney and Lynn Myers, are working out of the fast-growing city of Babati, Tanzania. They have been serving alone for some time now (although they have had many visitors and special meetings). They need long-term help if the Datooga are to be reached, and that is the challenge. Tanzania is a tough climate with more primitive conditions. Few would go without the call of the Lord; NONE should!
Everyone who reads this letter has a responsibility: is God directing YOU? That is really the only thing that is important. Wherever (or however) the Lord is leading, we MUST go. It is really very simple. YOU have to choose.
A final prayer request: Ruth Busch sees her Dr. at Johns Hopkins June 27. Please pray!
For the Missionaries,
Bruce P. Busch
