My Dear Brethren,
It may seem hard to believe - but summer is almost over! Yes, officially it is not over until late September, but most of us are already 'gearing up' for fall, and GFF is not an exception to that. Most of our fall schedules are in place, and it is simply a matter of following the plan at this point.
As I write this, missionaries are doing a variety of things. Some are getting ready to return to their fields; others for conferences or meetings. We are particularly concerned for those on prefield ministry, such as the Stevenson and Frizzell families. The Stevensons hope to leave for France this year, while the Frizzells have some distance to travel. Both however will only go as far as prayer will take them, and we solicit your effectual fervent prayers for both!
Michael and Valerie Gay remain on medical leave. Valerie has had a recurrence of Lyme disease, and has had a terrific struggle with it. We are deeply concerned: not that she will necessarily lose her life (although that happens rarely), but that she has not been able to overcome the Lyme. Until she does, the family cannot minister, and that is a real burden for this young family (they have three small children). Prayer changes things, and it will CHANGE this situation in the will of God. Many wait in Canada for the Word of God until the Lord works in this situation.
Most of Canada lacks the Word of God. It seems strange to us (particularly here in Pa.), as eastern Canada is well within a days' drive, but Canada (particularly French-speaking Quebec, where the Gay family wishes to minister) has some strong similarities to Western Europe. Attitudes are more liberal, and there is correspondingly less of the Gospel. 'Throw in' some anti-Americanism, and it is a tough place for American missionaries to live and work. Yet Canadians need the Lord, and the Lord is calling people out to minister there. Prayer will change things!
Summer is indeed almost over - yet there is much work to be done. We thank the Lord for all of you, your prayers, and your giving.
Your servant in Christ,
Bruce P. Busch
