My Dear Brethren,
On August 17, Aaron Shipe left for Tanzania, without his wife (Nicole) or their six children. He returned at the end of August; the intention of the trip was to prepare for their almost-imminent departure to Tanzania. We do not have the exact date that they are going as some details remain to be cared for before they depart. The family is not quite at 100% support, which is required by the Fellowship before departing for a first term outside the United States.
The Shipe family is not the only ones who are 'getting closer' to departing for their field of service. Others are making progress as well (the Torres family would be a good example, although they still need some support). Nathan and Karen Frizzell are also making progress in heading towards South Africa.
We rejoice when we see each missionary family go. It is usually the culmination of months and years of prayer and hard work. Some people have concerns over difficult economic times in America - we are not worried about the Lord's work. The missionary is not dependent upon the state of the economy; he is dependent upon the Work of God in his life and the lives of others. While hard times frighten some, God is not affected. His work continues.
A quick note here: we have been pleased at the response to the additional ACH (Automated Clearing House) service that the Fellowship has offered (see our June letter). If you wish to get involved with this service, please contact the Office. We are also able to handle quarterly donations in this way as well.
Lord willing, by the time that you read this I will have been through my knee replacement surgery (scheduled August 27). Please pray that I am able to recover as quickly as possible, as I have a VERY full fall schedule. Travel is what a Director has to do! The original plan was to have the surgery in July, but that was not possible. The Lord is Sovereign, and His plans are certainly far better than any others. The Lord KNOWS. He will not forget your labors of love, prayer, and giving to this ministry.
In His love,
Bruce P. Busch
