Silent Night, HOLY NIGHT
My Dear Brethren,
As 2011 passes into eternity, we are aware that for many it was just … another … year. Or perhaps it was a year that they would like to forget. It seems that darkness is prevailing in much of the known world – much as it must have seemed immediately before the birth of our Savior. Yet God was not dead then, nor inactive or missing in action. He was powerfully at work in the First Century and He is actively working today. God was there, He is HERE, and He is not silent!
As mentioned before (August) we saw cherished goals accomplished in 2011; our mortgage being paid off, for instance. A fundamental, biblical perspective is what the Scriptures teach, but that perspective also has to be ‘wedded’ to wise stewardship. Our whole goal is to glorify the Savior and not to ‘disappear into the night.’ Many, many -- too many -- are still in darkness without the Gospel. We know what is ahead, both for those of us who know HIM, and for those lost in their blindness and sin.
All of us are busy, and many of us think that we cannot possibly do more. But we can! Here is how … by prayer. God’s people need to reach out to our dark world, and that is the way that every believer can extend the reach of the Gospel. We can go places by prayer that many of us will never see: Africa, Asia, Europe, or beyond. There is no limit to what prayer can accomplish within the will of God. The concept is easy, but the practice takes time. The Lord is not ‘too busy’, but we often are.
People don’t see the fruit of prayer many times. It may take years for prayer to be answered. It took almost thirty years for the Lord to answer my prayers for Uganda (as I mentioned in another letter). I am sure that others prayed for Uganda as well. Many of you could point to other prayers answered. The night may seem silent and very dark now – but the Lord is waiting to hear. Let Him hear from you today!
