Dear Friends,
We cannot overestimate the vital importance of investing in missionaries and mission fields with informed and intelligent prayer!
Hudson Taylor said as much when he wrote this: “I turn the hearts of men through God by prayer.” Did Taylor possess an inflated view of self? Did he have a grandiose appreciation of his own importance? Quite to the contrary! In his humility and contriteness, he was driven to extreme reliance on God responding to his praying!
Are we only generally concerned about our finances, our children, or the welfare of our aging parents? Do we simply pray: “Lord, bless our financial situation!”, or, do we pray: “Lord, we have a bill past due and I still need gas to go to work. Please help me get to work while I do the responsible thing by paying this bill.” Are we prone to only pray: “Lord, bless Junior!”, or, do we pray: “Lord, Junior struggles with pressures at school and no longer shows signs of loving the Bible or church. Please, change his circumstances and his heart.” Are we content with praying: “God bless Dad and Mom in their advance stages of life.” Or, do you call them, ask questions, maybe even go with them to appointments to get the story from specialists themselves? Do you not, then with that confirmed information go to God in prayer?
Our prayer is a plea coming from a developed and disciplined intellect based on rightly observed and discerned information when it comes to finances and family. Why should it be anything less when we go to God in prayer on behalf of our missionaries and the fields on which they serve? Short answer – it shouldn’t!
God bless you as you seek to turn the hearts of men!
Your servant in Christ!
