Being a Good Host Hostess to Missionaries
These may sound like common sense to many people. However, one person’s “common sense” and another person’s “common sense” may be very different. These suggestions come from many years of hosting guests and being a guest during deputation, furlough, etc.
1. Make sure that your house is clean.
2. Inquire or have the pastor inquire about food allergies, dietary restrictions, or preferences. 3. Before agreeing to host missionaries, ask if they have children, how many, and their ages to be sure that you can host them comfortably.
4. Do all you can to make them feel “at home” and welcomed.
5. Have age appropriate things available for the children to entertain themselves.
6. Make sure that you know what meals that you will be responsible to provide.
7. Have suggestions available regarding things they can do with their children such as a park so that they can run off their energy.
8. Inquire as to the drinks, snacks, that they and/or their children would enjoy. Inquire ahead of time if they are tea or coffee drinkers and any preferences in that area.
9. Ask early in the visit if the missionaries need to use your washer and dryer.
