White as Snow
February, 2021
In Central Pennsylvania, we have entered an unavoidable season of snow that has changed every color of the landscape from its original to a sparkling white—extending from sod to sky. Each natural color, of course, will return once the snow is gone. However, man has a stain much darker…and yet there is a “whiteness” which does not simply cover but cleanse each spot.
God says that the sins of the sinner are as scarlet; yet, His desire is to make them as new and white as the freshly fallen snow (Is. 1:18). No matter the darkness or depth, the sinner’s heart can be cleansed from the old and make all these new (2 Co. 5:17).
The unevangelized hide, ignore, or even enjoy their scarlet sin. Yet we know that they can only do so for a season; there is an unavoidable day approaching. On that day of judgment, the piercing eyes of Christ will melt away all coverings and reveal every thought and intent of every man’s heart (Rv.19:12; Hb.4:12). It is only the Gospel itself, then, that has the power of God to save—penetrating from surface to soul!
The testimony of the Gospel was to the Jews first due to the very oracles of God having had been committed to them; and it is the oracles themselves which speak of Christ (Rm.3:2; Jn 5:39). However, the Gospel is no less powerful to save those who have not the advantage the Jews have had (Rm.3:1-2). God our Savior desires all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth (2 Tm.2:3-4). It is to this end that he commands that “men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.” (Vs.8)
Pray with us and with your missionaries that the cleansing power of the Gospel of Christ will be heard by those who have yet to hear—that they whose sins are still yet scarlet red will become snow white!
